Facial cream with vitis vinifera extract

Botany and Chemistry
“Vitis Vinifera L” is a woody deciduous plant, with big leaves held by a long peduncle, with a broad contour and heart-shaped base, followed by five divided lobes with dentate edges. Leaves spring from two to four each year at the base of the one-year-old branches (vines) and another leaf with a bunch or tendril springs in front, at the other side of the vine. These tendrils attach to any support and make the vine to climb.

The bunch in a vineyard is a panicle. Flowers have a green challice with five barely perceivable teeth. The corolla has five petals that form a single piece. Both, petals and stamens spring from a small disc formed in the whorl of the perianth.

The fruit is a rounded or ellipsoidal berry, light honey or wax colored, at times almost white or pink-purplish.

The fruit or grape composition is very complex and diverse according to the place of origin, variety or type of grape. It has variable amounts of glucose, laevulose and sucrose. It also contains tannic acid , tartaric acid, and gallic acid in the form of calcium salts. We found dyes (in the skin), vitamin C and some essence.

Grape Seed:
“Vitis Vinifera L” is commonly known as vines or grapes. It’s a kind of a twining vine or barky plant belonging to the Vitaceae family. It is characterized for a stem that can climb up to 35 cm.
Grapes are composed as follows:
Peduncle: Extreme of a grape bunch joined to the vine or woody branch.
Skin: Fine film that wraps the grape
Pulp: Pulpy part of fruit containing the juice
Seeds: They are inside the pulp with a very hard external layer, different according to the variety. Seeds, normally four, are inside the grape berry, since they originate from the two flower ovaries and each ovary has two ovules. However, because fecundation is not perfect, the number of seeds ranges from 1 to 4.

Originated in the Mediterranean area and Asia Minor, grapes are grown almost all over the world today. Grape seed extract is obtained from Vitis Vinifera seeds.

Vitis Vinifera was one of the species most frequently used by ancient civilizations inhabiting the Earth.
Grape cultivars and wine, their final product, were already mentioned in Egyptian hieroglyphics 2400 years BC, and in numerous verses of the Bible. Hippocrates, Teofrasto, Galeno, Dioscorides and Plinio mentioned their medicinal properties, for instance they assured that red wine had tonic and astringent properties while white wine was a diuretic.
Oil extracted from grape seeds is used as a dietary complement. In popular Medicine in the South of Africa, this oil is used as a laxative, anti-acid, cholagogue and healer of wounds and ulcers.
